Couperin - The Mysterious Barricades

François Couperin, He was known as "Le Grand" (the Great), was known for the imaginative, witty, and descriptive titles of his harpsichord pieces, which he grouped into suites and often likened to musical postcards of court life and personality.  


  • Born: November 10, 1668, in Paris, France.
  • Died: September 11, 1733, also in Paris.
  • Contributions: Couperin was famous for his significant contributions to French Baroque music, particularly his harpsichord suites, and his role as a musician in the court of Louis XIV.
